Automated decision-making (Art. 22)

GDPR Art. 22 gives you the right not to be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing where they produce legal effects on you. This page is the precise breakdown of where automation sits in the Buronia workflow and where human review is mandatory.

Effective 2026-04-30.

What Buronia automates

  • Translates your answers (in your language) into the wording the official form expects.
  • Performs eligibility-threshold arithmetic (e.g. is your monthly rent below the regional Wohngeld ceiling).
  • Drafts the application letter and a checklist of supporting documents.
  • Generates plain-language explanations of the form's questions on request.

What Buronia does not automate

  • It does not decide whether your benefit will be approved — that is the public authority's exclusive role.
  • It does not reject or accept your account.
  • It does not set your price (price is fixed at €19, identical for everyone).
  • It does not silently filter or down-rank applicants.
  • It does not decide who is eligible for which benefit — it shows the same benefit list to everyone in the country.

Human-in-the-loop

Every Buronia draft is shown to you for review before it is delivered. You can edit, regenerate, or discard. Submission to the public authority is performed by you, manually, offline — Buronia never submits on your behalf. There is no automated decision producing a legal effect.

Your right to human review

Even though there is no Art. 22 automated decision in our workflow, we operate as if the right applies:

  • You can request a human DPO review of any draft we generated.
  • You can request a re-draft by a human reviewer (€0 — included).
  • You can challenge an eligibility-arithmetic result and we will recompute by hand.

How we mitigate drafting risks

  • Sensitive fields (national ID, IBAN, exact income) are tokenised before being sent to Buronia; they never appear in Buronia's prompt.
  • Anthropic Zero-Data-Retention contract: prompts are not used for training.
  • Drafts are anchored to official authority wording on each benefit page; deviations are flagged.
  • Generation is reviewed against a benefit-specific evaluation set during deployment.

Profiling

We do not build profiles of users. We do not score users. We do not predict future behaviour for marketing purposes. The only "scoring" in the system is the binary eligibility check that you see in plain text on the benefit page.

Requesting human review

Email dpo@buronia.com. Human reviews are completed within 7 working days at no extra charge.

Private Buronia help — not a government service. Buronia is a private company helping people draft benefit applications. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operating on behalf of any government, ministry, or public authority. The official application must be submitted by you to the relevant authority. Use of our service is optional — every benefit listed can be applied for free of charge directly with the authority.
