Witwen-/Witwerrente
Witwen- und Witwerrente (DE survivors' pension)
55% of your late spouse's pension (kleine Witwenrente: 25%) — paid by the Deutsche Rentenversicherung after the bereavement.
Start application →Witwen- und Witwerrente is the German survivor's pension paid by the Deutsche Rentenversicherung to surviving spouses (and registered partners) when their partner dies. There are two forms: kleine Witwenrente (25% of the deceased's pension, paid for 24 months) and große Witwenrente (55% of the deceased's pension, paid for life). Which applies depends on the surviving spouse's age, work-capacity, or whether they are raising children.
Eligibility
The deceased must have met the minimum contribution period (typically 60 months, often waived if death was caused by a work accident). The marriage or registered partnership must have lasted at least one year (with exceptions). Surviving partner's own income above a threshold reduces the pension. The kleine pension is paid for 24 months; the große pension is paid for life if the surviving spouse is over 47, has reduced earning capacity, or is raising a child under 18.
